Discover the Wadden Sea
The Wadden Sea is a World Heritage Site - but what makes it so special? Join a curious little blackbird on her adventure on the island of Föhr! There she meets two oystercatchers looking for a new breeding site - and gets to know lots of interesting birds, fascinating animals and the unique ecosystem of the Wadden Sea. Explore the mysterious world of the salt marshes, the mudflats and the beaches of Föhr together in a lovingly illustrated and interactive story.
Through playful elements and mini-games like the beak memory or the quiz, children deepen their knowledge and become real mudflat experts.
Perfect for families, schools and anyone who wants to discover the Wadden Sea in a new way!
Background
Watt Discover is the first game from Meander Interactive UG. The edutainment indie game studio was founded with a clear vision: to develop high-quality, engaging, and educational content for children.
The Wadden Sea is one of Europe's most fascinating and fragile ecosystems – yet it is often overlooked. The idea for Discovering the Wadden Sea was born out of the desire to convey this unique habitat in a child-friendly way.
Initiated by Meander Interactive and supported by partners from research, education and nature conservation, the project combines modern game design with in-depth knowledge of the mudflats.
Story
In Watt Discover, children accompany a young blackbird – a curious aspiring journalist. Blackbird always has her camera at the ready, and her backpack is stacked with hundreds of notes – because Blackbird wants to know EVERYTHING in detail.
For her very first report, she travels to the Wadden Sea to report on life on the North Sea coast. As if that wasn't adventure enough, she meets Jonne and Enken, a pair of oystercatchers who lost their nesting ground, their home on the island, due to a terrible disaster. Will they manage to find a new nesting site in time with the help of the blackbird?
Gameplay
Children explore a living world in the rhythm of the tides, discover animals and plants, and learn through small adventures, mini-games and interesting puzzles how important the protection of this UNESCO World Heritage Site is.

Team
Behind Watt Discover is the creative core team of Meander Interactive, complemented by an interdisciplinary network of educators and environmental experts.
Janis Haberstroh
Janis brings his passion for environmental education and interactive storytelling to the "Discover the Wadden Sea" project. His extensive expertise on the Wadden Sea natural environment stems from his Voluntary Ecological Year at the Wadden Sea Conservation Station, where he gained and shared in-depth knowledge of the ecosystem, its inhabitants, and nature conservation as a bird and mudflat guide. His focus is on producing and implementing environmental education content to inspire children about ecological connections – in an entertaining, narrative way that encourages empathy and action.
Marlene Käseberg
Marlene develops digital content that truly connects with children – visually, narratively, and emotionally. As the founder of Meander Interactive and developer of the Meander Books Framework, she pursues the goal of combining age-appropriate design with relevant topics such as nature education, literacy development, and self-efficacy. With "Discover the Wadden Sea" Marlene wants to open up a world for children where they can explore, learn, and play independently – and learn a lot about the Wadden Sea and its fascinating inhabitants in a playful, pressure-free way, almost incidentally.
